Upgrading MoonPay’s Widget with NFT Checkout & Instant Wallet Creation, gaining 7+ million users
MoonPay simplifies cryptocurrency transactions currently being World’s No.1 on-ramp, winning “Best Cryptocurrency Purchasing Site of 2022” for the 2nd year in a row in the annual FinTech Breakthrough Awards and also being named as one of the Top 50 Disruptor Companies of 2022 by CNBC.
As part of my experience designing Fintech and Web3 solutions, I worked on refining MoonPay’s widget alongside 4 more product designers, used by over 13+ million people in 160+ countries at that time (2022), with over 30+ million users and 550 partners as of today (2025).
Our focus was on launching 2 new key products:
NFT Checkout – A seamless way for users to purchase NFTs directly with fiat, eliminating the need for prior crypto ownership
Don’t Have a Wallet – A feature enabling instant wallet creation, allowing non-crypto users to participate in Web3 effortlessly
The challenge was to integrate these features without disrupting MoonPay’s fast and intuitive user experience, ensuring accessibility for both crypto native and first time users.

Despite MoonPay’s success, recognised as the Best Cryptocurrency Purchasing Site of 2022 by FinTech Breakthrough Awards and one of CNBC’s Top 50 Disruptor Companies in the same year, key barriers remained for mainstream adoption:
Buying NFTs was complicated – Users had to buy crypto first, transfer it to a wallet, and then use it for NFT purchases
Many users didn’t have a wallet – Web3 onboarding assumed prior knowledge, leading to high drop-off rates
Security and trust concerns – New users hesitated due to unfamiliarity with wallets and asset custody
The redesigned MoonPay widget delivered a faster, more intuitive user experience, making crypto and NFT purchases seamless. The integration of NFT Checkout and Don’t Have a Wallet led to a 50% faster transaction time, a 35% increase in conversion rates for first-time Web3 users, and a 23% decrease in user abandonment. These features contributed to 7M+ new users and were adopted by major brands like Adidas, Puma, Universal Studios, and Flamengo Football Club to power their NFT experiences with real life use cases, reinforcing MoonPay’s position as the world’s No.1 crypto on-ramp.

To better understand these pain points, together with a UX researcher we conducted:
User interviews with first time NFT buyers and digital creators
Competitive analysis of popular NFT marketplaces to identify best practices
User testing of MoonPay’s existing widget to track friction points and pain areas
• NFT buyers want a single experience – The additional step of acquiring crypto first was a major turn off
Users don’t understand wallets – Many were interested in Web3 but didn’t know how to set up or manage a crypto wallet
Trust is critical – Users needed clear security assurances regarding asset ownership and safe transactions
• Simplify NFT purchases by integrating a direct fiat-to-NFT flow
Lower the entry barrier for Web3 by providing seamless wallet setup
Maintain MoonPay’s best-in-class UX while adding powerful new features
Ensure security and transparency to build user confidence
We mapped out all key user journeys in Figma in both low and high fidelity prototypes
Users select an NFT and pay using credit card, Apple Pay, or other fiat methods
The NFT is automatically sent to their wallet after purchase, eliminating extra steps
Users can create a wallet instantly within the MoonPay widget
They receive a secure backup of their wallet credentials and can connect to any Web3 platform later on
Users are introduced to new trust signals, such as security badges and clear messaging, through progressive disclosure, ensuring they receive step by step guidance without feeling overwhelmed








Being part of MoonPay’s evolution was one of the biggest learning experiences of my career. Working on a high impact product in a fast moving industry where the bar was always sky high pushed me to improve my design approach, collaborate cross functionally at scale, and balance user needs with business growth.

Led the design efforts for MoonPay’s Business Development team, creating custom product UX demos for every potential partner, showcasing how our solutions could drive engagement and revenue. This played a direct role in securing 50+ key partnerships for MoonPay
Helped redesign MoonPay’s primary conversion tool, the widget, which is now used by 30M+ people across 160+ countries, contributing to 7M+ new users and a 23% decrease in user abandonment during my time
Personally designed and prototyped mobile wallets, landing pages, and marketplaces for global brands and potential partners, including Nike, Samsung, Universal Studios, and Red Bull
Collaborated with the design team to launch NFT Checkout and Don’t Have a Wallet, enabling credit/debit card NFT purchases and instant wallet creation, now used by brands like Adidas, Puma, Universal Studios, and Flamengo Football Club
This project reinforced the importance of great user experiences, trust in emerging technologies, and scalable design systems.
